This was the most serious incident
in the North-West for many years. At 0911 on 17 July 2015,
crews were alerted to the incident, where there had been a massive explosion.
Following the explosion it is understood that the 4 storey building collapsed
and was engulfed in fire. On arrival crews found many casualties,
and it soon became clear that 4 people were unaccounted for.
At the time of preparing this page [20 July] 3 people still remain unaccounted
for.
We attended initially with 2
Catering Units, G58S4 and G35S4. At the time of call, I was about
to conduct a Funeral Service, and so attended with the second van, immediately
that service was over. However, it did mean I had no camera equipment
with me, and so the pictures I took on Friday were all on my mobile phone,
which sadly does not have the quality of my main camera. On
Saturday, I did take my camera, but because the area is currently a Crime
Scene, I was unable to take any further fireground shots.
Below are pictures of some of the many appliances that attended. Appliances attended from both ends of Tunstall Road. However, the only access to the other side involved a walk of almost 2 miles, and so I could only photograph the appliances based in and around the Command Unit. It would not have been possible to leave the SACU for the length of time it would have taken to do the walk.
