This incident was one of the
most serious and difficult incidents in the North-West for some considerable
time. The fire started in the early hours of Sunday morning
14 June in a block of flats of timber construction. Thankfully,
all the residents were safely evacuated, but due to the nature of the construction
of the building, fire-fighting proved extremely difficult, and a number
of flats were completely destroyed rendering a number of people homeless.
After the intial attendance of 15 pumps there were 2x15 pump reliefs during
the day, before the attemdance was reduced. Appliances
attended from Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire, a number of
which I managed to photograph. However, these photographs do not
provide an exhaustive list of appliances attending.
