This page is dedicated to all the firefighters and other agencies who worked tirelessly, often in extreme heat, to extinguish these moorland fires over many hectares.
Originally it was not my intention to cover the Tintwistle fire as it is in Derbyshire, and outside the area normally covered by this website, even though assistance was given by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service. However, the three fires eventually became one large fire and so it seems appropriate to include appliance pictures that I took at Tintwistle. I have also included pictures of some of the appliances supplied through National Resilience at the foot of this page.
My own involvement was through my voluntary work with the Salvation Army. Before the Dovestones fire began, volunteers from the North-West teams gave assistance to the East Midlands teams, which was the reason for my visit to Tintwistle. Subsequently my wife and I were involved in making sandwiches at home for transportation to Swineshaw where G35S4 had been parked for a couple of weeks or more following a few days parked at Dovestones. It is not expected to return to Chadderton before Monday 10th August.
