One of the largest fires in Cumbria
for a long time, involved a huge timber yard in the coastal village of
Flimby near Maryport. The fire is believed to have been of accidental
iuginition and invovled a stack of timber which spread fast through a large
amount of staked timber and several thousand tonnes of bark chippings.
I attended on the afternoon of April 29th and I am indebted to the Cumbria
Fire & Rescue Service for invaluable assistance with these pictures.
Mercedes PX11AFE from Keswick.
Although the fire was largely extinguished, there was still some smouldering.
I understand that at the time of the fire,
this entire rea was filled with timber.
The Water Carrier from Penrith, PK57FBD was kept busy throughout the incident.
