DAY 4 ~ MONDAY 2 MAY

It will be obvious from the photographs below that there was no let up in the sunny and windy weather, although the wind was particularly cold today.  The SACUs were now working in two shifts 1000-1500 and 1500-2000 and my team was booked for the latter of the two.   My younger son volunteered to come out and assist, giving us 3 staff on the van, so that it would be easier for me to take more pictures.   Throughout the day there were around 12-15 pumps plus specials still in attendance.

As in the previous updates, the pictures are presented more or less in the order that they were taken.

We arrived in SACU 'A' J269TTX from Whitefield to relieve SACU 'B' fN665WVR from Salford.

PL06OVZ from Lancaster was the support pump for the CSU from Fulwood just visible behind.

L4V PN04VAK from Chorley.

T132BCK from Colne.

The fire had spread many miles over the weekend, and because the crews were working long periods of time on the moors, it was necessary for us to make 'pack-ups' which could be taken to the fireground in the L4V.  Late on Monday afternoon, I was given the privilege of going out to the fireground with the food and also seeing at first hand the absolute devastation that this fire had caused.   The following set of pictures was taken in various locations around the incident.

Reserve appliance T124BCK from Bacup was parked just beyond the Blue Lagoon at Belmont.

Also there was PF04UXN from Penwortham.

From there we proceeded around Rivington into Anglezarke where the fire had hit a plantation high on the moors above.

Prime Mover and Major Incident Support Unit from Preston.

PO55WDT from Preston was the support pump for the MISU

T132BCK from Colne, seen earler in the day at the R.V. point was now based at Anglezarke.

PF51OVL from Lytham.

A very familiar sight over the week was T128BCK from Great Harwood..

Several of the above vehicles were photographed again in the evening on their return to the R.V. point.  It is not my intention to post them again.
The next set of pictures were taken at the plantation and show just what devastation was caused by this fire.

Compare the green tree on the left with the black and brown trees ahead.

The final incident below gives was taken from the opposite side of the moors to those facing the R.V. point and I hope it gives some indication of the magnitude of the fire.

Concluding the update for Bank Holiday Monday, some more appliances seen at the R.V. point in the evening sunshine.

PL06OWA from Darwen.

PF51OVK from Longridge.

PN52VJL from Padiham.
