ALTRINCHAM FIRE STATION OPEN DAY
& 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
7 MAY 2012

Originally part of Cheshire County until 1 April 1974, an Open Day and Anniversary Special were held at the Fire Station 50 years to the day after it opened.  A number of former fire-fighters were present, and despite the slightly inclement weather,  a good number of the public also attended.

A number of different appliance attended, but as ever, Dennis Metz T.L. PDK717 ex-Rochdale was one of the star attractions.

The annivesary cake.

Former fire-fighters joined the current watch for an anniversary photograph.

The crew with the Mayor of Trafford.

Other appliances in attendance included:

The Dog Unit BL04CWZ

Small Incident Unit MX05FHL

West Water Incident Unit MX07GYZ

Hydraulic Platform Vehicle V474EBA

SACU 'C' MM51OZP

There were the usual fund-raising stalls and fire safety stalls and demonstations.  However, with such a party atmosphere it seemed appropriate that the crew should give an very amusing demonstration of a rescue.

The scene was set ~ a person was trapped in a high-rise building.

She was advised to jump into a sheet, but declined!

The crew decided to use the 13.5m ladder instead.

The Crew Manager was quite agitated as he pointed to the trapped lady.

Whoops!  The ladder was pitched in the wrong place.

Eventually they got it right...

... and the Crew Manager leaped for joy.

The crew shared his enthusiasm.

A very brave fire-figher began long, nervous climb...

..but what's this?  A helpful neighbour arrived with a tray of drinks for our intrepid crew.

Just what they needed after all the hard work.

It certainly gave our hero more confidence.

And when he finally reached the casualty there was a big hug for him.

He carefully helped her to escape the inferno

Almost there.

Safely rescued, the old lady now wanted to show her gratitiude.

Then it was High-Fives amongst the crew for another succesful rescue.
